Otter Controls Limited was founded in 1946 to manufacture
'snap-action' thermostats under a new and fundamentally different
patent for a three legged bimetal blade which, in various
developed forms, is still in use today.
The Otter Group which is still a privately owned British
company consists of manufacturing plants in two locations
in the United Kingdom. Our Head Office is in Buxton, Derbyshire,
together with one of the manufacturing plants. The other
Otter factory is located in St Davids (South West Wales).
Otter Controls Limited is committed to the supply of products
and services that conform fully to the customer requirements.
To achieve this we are dedicated to the continuous improvement
of products and services and operate a documented quality
system to comply with the requirements of BS EN ISO 9001:2000.
We will build quality into our products and services from
the original
design through all the commercial and production processes
to final despatch. Every link within the organisation has
a commitment to satisfying its own internal customer requirements.
The concept behind the Otter bimetallic switch was developed
during the 1940's when Otter’s founder first experimented
with bimetal controls to provide thermostats for electrically
heated flying suits.
This bimetal concept was subsequently applied to the problem
of a warning light on a Rover car and the prototype led to a
new and fundamentally novel patent.
Otter Controls Limited was founded in 1946 to utilise this patent
which has led to over one and a half billion switches being manufactured
in over fifty years.
Since those early days Otter has remained independent and has
become synonymous with quality, reliability and innovation.
The continued success of Otter is a result of dedicated service
to the customer. Otter® (a registered trademark worldwide)
supply products to over 40 countries via a strong network of
well established Otter trained representatives who are supported
